We hope that everyone enjoyed British Pie Week as much as we did. Before it’s all over for another year, we thought we’d give you a little summary of what we got up to – just in case you missed it!
This year we wanted to encourage the nation to share a #pieceofthepie. Whether that be by gifting free pies to friends, helping to donate pies to those in need, or just sitting round the table and tucking into a good pie with family and friends. So without further ado, here’s our pie-line of British Pie Week.
On your marks, get set, PIE:
In preparation for British Pie Week we worked with the hugely talented food artist, Nathan Wyburn, who created stunning portraits of some famous faces and voices from TV and radio. We then hand-delivered these pie-sonalised pies to their real-life inspirations.
Let Pie Week Commence!
Our British Pie Week technically started on Sunday 1st March where our Brand manager, Amy made her way up to London to deliver two of our first pie-sonalised pies to Sunday Brunch’s Simon and Tim.
Then, bright and early on Monday 2nd, Amy along with Izzy, our Assistant Brand Manager and Perry, on of our Logistics Team Leaders, left Higgidy HQ at 4am to deliver the rest of our pie-sonalised pies.
We shared a piece of the pie with Chris Evans at Virgin Radio, Chris Moyles at Radio X, Zoe Ball on Radio 2, Greg James on Radio 1, Matt Baker and Alex Jones at The One Show ending with Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield on This Morning.
We had great fun and were thrilled to hear Chris Moyles and Zoe Ball enjoying their pies live on air! We also appeared on Radio Sussex’s breakfast show with Neil Pringle too alongside Turner’s Pies – who have just been crowned Supreme Pie Champions in this year’s British Pie Awards.
Whilst we were making our way round London, We released our first 50 pies to the fastest pie fans as part of our Share a Piece of the Pie Competition. Each day during British Pie Week, we gave away 50 free pies and each winner could then give another free pie to a friend in the spirit of sharing or could donate them to FareShare to be redistributed to those in need. So over the course of the week, a whopping 700 of you have enjoyed a pie on us!
In the spirit of sharing a #pieceofthepie this British Pie Week, it was important for us to do something slightly more meaningful. So beyond giving you the chance to get your hands on pies, we also teamed up with FareShare. We’ve been proud supporters of FareShare for a number of years but we wanted to take this support to the next level which is why we introduced our pie for a pie scheme. For every pie purchased during British Pie Week, we would donate another to FareShare.
Now that British Pie Week is over, the question on everyone’s lips is just how many pies are we donating?
Drum roll please…We are thrilled to say that we will be donating a whopping 78.9K! We’re so glad that all of these pies will be given to someone who needs them and that we are doing our bit to tackle hunger in the UK.
Alongside this, we’ve been encouraging you all to host supper clubs in an attempt to minimise food waste. Our top tip for this is to invite round all of your nearest and dearest, and to get each of them to bring a dish using something that would have otherwise gone to waste. It’s amazing what you can create, for more tips be sure to head over to our No Time To Waste blog!
We’ve enjoyed our own supper clubs at Higgidy HQ this week with a pie feast in our weekly team huddle, and our on shift teams have enjoyed a feast of sweet pies to mark the occasion. We love bringing our teams together and what better time to host a pie party than during British Pie Week!
It’s also a lovely time to say a little thank you for the continued hard work that happens 24 hours a day, 364 days a year at Higgidy. We wouldn’t be able to bring you the pies that we do without the amazing work of our teams.
So that’s it for another year, we hope that you enjoyed British Pie Week and if you’ve been enjoying some pie feasts, please do send us in any photos, we’d love to see them! You can email these to us at thekitchen@higgidy.co.uk or tag us on social media @higgidy!
